a little of this and that

We are back to our family of four humans, seven animals. My mom is gone and in her wake is clean laundry, paired socks, frozen meals in the freezer, a groomed dog, altered clothing, organized cupboards and lots of love. She knows how to give, that woman.

Not much better than sipping a martini on Sunday evening while my mom hums and pins my dress.

For the next several days I will be busy installing my work at the Brink. Typing that sentence makes my stomach lurch. I am so excited and so nervous, mostly excited.

Ruby doing down dog next to I Can Fix It, an installation of one week's egg shells pieced back together and coated in beeswax.

Speaking of stomach lurch, I best get back in the studio to finish up a few things. Eeeeeek.

In my column this week, I wrote about a funny experience I had with my car alarm. Read about it in mama digs: pushing buttons.

Love the picture of Ruby doing downward dog! Those girls are yoga masters!!!

Hilarious story about Margot and the keys. I remember doing the same thing to my dad, but we were in high school. Sneaky little Margot - she is a hoot!

looks amazing!
i'm confused. ruby has (a) blond hair that is (b) long enough for pigtails? whoa.

P.S. Yay - was I really the first commenter?

I really wish I could come see that exhibit. It looks just right. And I have seen, and loved that fabric before, years ago - so neat to see it enrobing someone.

Oh, Margot! :) I can't wait to see that dress finished! I wish I could be in Missoula to see your art, from the snippets I've seen it looks fabulous! Does Ruby have pigtails?! xxxooo

I hang my stuff on the 1st opening the 2nd best of luck on your show... this morning my stomach is churning going to a meditation class tonight that should help me calm my nerves.

Can your mom come and visit me? I could use a love like that.
When you have time, can you explain the eggs and bee's wax thing.
Good luck with your art exhibit!

I sure wish I could be in MT to see your installation! It would be a great reason to see MT for the first time! One of the three lower 48 states I have yet to visit. Hmm...I wonder how long it takes to drive from Seattle to Missoula...(gears turning...)

Can't wait to attend your gallery opening via digthischick!

Oh, and I've been meaning to ask you for a long time - could you post your martini recipe? I realize it's either gin or vodka, but I can't seem to perfect it. Seems like a lot of mama's out there could use the help, too? Really a sort of public service announcement. Vermouth? No Vermouth? Shaken? Stirred? What kind of olives? Brand of vodka? You make it seem so acceptable on a Sunday evening!

Enjoy your week.

"I can fix it" with pieced together egg shells? Not sure I've *ever* heard of a better metaphor.

Wish I could be there to hug you in your gorgeous dress on opening night.

Oh, wow, I was seriously NOT expecting the culprit to be Margot. I had no idea 3 year olds were capable of such things. Oh, the fun we have to look forward to!

Can't WAIT to see opening night.

I can't wait for your show to open. Based on the photos I've seen, you should not be nervous at all! Just keep doin' your thang.

Those pigtails are adorable and somehow so very grown up! She's come so far from the squishy baby I remember when I started reading.

I love that she's doing down dog- that photo of her and Margot doing down dog together made me really excited about kids knowing yoga and it just being fun.

Clove said that she didn't expect it to be Margot. The entire time I was reading it I was thinking, "hell yeah, it's Margot. 100%." And I was right and I cracked up laughing so hard. Ah, funny kid. Look Mommy, I can push more than just the button on this remote (heh, heh, heh).

Good luck this week. Keep rocking it out. You'll have it all installed before the show down Friday.

Peace out. Child screaming at me instead of peacefully sleeping.

Oh, the pigtails.
Oh, the joy of your mamadigs this week.
Oh, how I wish I could be there this weekend for what I know will be amazing...one of those adrenaline rush days for you when you, no doubt, will feel good and proud and satisfied for your hard work and your amazing talent. You use it well.

Celebrate your big accomplishment at the Isle? I say yes.

The dress is da bomb.

There is nothing like some mom cleaning! I want to get pregnant again just so my mom will come stay with us and do her magic at my house!

Good luck on your show!

Oh that cheeky little Margot... love her rascally ways.
Have been thinking of you as the 1st draws near. Wish I lived closer so I might see the show in person. Looking forward to seeing the pics from your opening... it will be wonderful, I just know it.
Ruby pigtails made my day!

Rube's piggies are so adorable. And, the egg really has me interested in your show. I know one thing for sure -- you'll look stunning in your frock!

I love how awesome your mom is to just step up and bless you everywhere in your house, be it laundry, preparing meals for later, loving the girls, hemming your clothes and just her very prescence is comforting.

You are so blessed Nici. And you know that. :o)

Love your mom! Wonder if she'll come to Texas to spread some love.

Good luck with your art opening. I know how you feel, but you are so much more calm cool and collected.

So funny. We have one of those lovely mini-van’s where EVERYTHING is controlled by a button on the key. Let my little one chew on the keys in the store, came out to find the alarm on, the two side doors and the hatch open. It looked like my car was possesed. It was lovely . .

I just cannot wait to hear more of your adventures with Margot as she grows up. What adventure she lends to life:) I can understand how this would be equally joyful as it is frustrating at different times!
Oh geez, at least she gives all us a laugh! Thanks for sharing.
